Do You Need a New Executor?

The job of an Executor is daunting and few people have an idea of how big a time commitment it can be. There are forms to fill out, deadlines to meet, appointments to keep, inventories, appraisals, and often emotional family dynamics to handle.

Many seniors chose their Executor years ago and now the questions:

Is the person you chose still alive or have you outlived them? If they are alive, are they up to the task? Do they have the stamina, mental capacity and  needed time to accomplish everything that needs to be done?

Do they live in close proximity to where they will need to perform their duties?

Is your estate complicated? Is you will very clear as to what your wishes are?

Have you made sure that all the documents and needed papers are accessible?

Have they actually agreed to be your executor?

It is wise to choose another Executor?

Some people choose a family member. Others choose a lawyer or trust officer. Some have a lawyer as co- Executor. Some people make a big mistake and name four or five people as co- Executors. We have worked in these situations and it has been very challenging.

See your lawyer. Make sure your will is up to date. Make sure you have chosen the right Executor for the task ahead.
